Accommodations

The University of Kansas is committed to supporting the diverse needs of every student. We provide specialized accommodations for medical and mental health needs, dietary requirements, or gender identity considerations.

Accommodation Process

Medical Needs

If you require accommodations for a specific medical need, please establish a file with the Student Access Center. Be sure to include documentation of your condition and a detailed description of the housing accommodation required.

To prepare for emergencies, you are also encouraged to create your own personal action plan

Dietary Assistance

KU Dining Services is dedicated to meeting your dietary needs, including accommodations for food allergies, medical conditions, or religious practices. Please visit their website for more details.

Emotional Support Animals

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal that provides personal comfort to individuals with disabilities. Housing & Residence Life offer accommodation for ESA’s; however, these accommodations are limited to residential spaces and do not apply to other areas of the university. For more details, please review the KU Policy on Animals in Buildings

Students with a documented disability who live in Housing & Residence Life and wish to request an ESA as an accommodation must register with the Student Access Center through their online application. Once your application is submitted, an access specialist will reach out to assist with your concerns, answer questions, or request additional documentation.

If you have questions about the process, or need assistance uploading your documentation, please contact the Student Access Center at 785-864-4064, or email access@ku.edu

Gender Inclusive Housing

KU is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming community. Gender Inclusive Housing offers students the option to share a suite with peers, regardless of sex, gender identity, or gender expression.

KU Student Housing also supports students of all sexualities and gender identities by providing individualized accommodations tailored to their unique needs.
