Overview

Housing & Residence Life offers housing for returning residents to continue living on campus and provides an Off-Campus Housing Marketplace for KU students to explore housing options in the Lawrence community. Returning residents can select from designated spaces in apartments, scholarship halls, GSP hall and eligible Special Interest Communities. Returning residents will NOT be eligible to select housing in Stouffer Place Apartments or residence halls.

Room selection groups will be assigned through a lottery process. The date/time you complete the housing contract has no impact on your room selection time if completed by 11:59 PM Central Standard Time (CST), December 4, 2024. After the application window closes, the contract will no longer be available.

  2. Log in with your KU online ID and password.
  3. Select "Services."
  4. Log in to housing.

November 13, 2024

Application Opens
Current residents can log in to the myKU Portal to apply and contract.  

November 14, 2024

Beginning at 8:00 AM CST, previous residents who do not hold a current contract and are not currently living on campus can log in to the myKU Portal to apply and contract.   

December 4, 2024

Deadline to Apply and Contract
Apply and Contract by 11:59 PM CST, to be eligible to live with Housing & Residence Life.

December 5, 2024

Standby List Available
The contract will no longer be available. A standby list will be available at 8:00 AM CST. The standby list is NOT a housing contract or a guarantee of housing. Housing & Residence Life will work to accommodate students on the standby list if space is available after room selection.

December 5-6, 2024

Room Retention Selection
From December 5 at 10:00 AM CST, until December 6 at 2:00 PM CST, students eligible to retain their space will have the opportunity to select. Each resident is responsible for retaining their own space. Roommate pull-ins will not be allowed during the room retention period. 

December 9, 2024

Room Selection Group Numbers Announced
Emails will be sent with lottery group numbers, date and time to begin room selection. 

December 10, 2024

Room Selection will Begin

January 24, 2025

Room Selection will End
Contracts for any residents who have not completed room selection by 12:00 PM CST will be cancelled.  

Optional Items

Special Interest Communities
During the contracting process, you will have the opportunity to express interest in returning to Honors, ROTC, Rainbow Community or a Gender Inclusive Assignment (GIA) for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Medical Accommodations Request
Contact the Student Access Center by January 24, 2025 indicating your plan to live on campus. Request to reinstate your housing accommodation for the 2025-2026 academic year. Recommendations received after January 24 will be considered but will be accommodated as space is available.

Scholarship Hall Residents

Residents returning to a Scholarship Hall for the 2025-2026 academic year MUST contract by January 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM CST. Room selection will occur at Hall meetings in February. Contracts will be cancelled March 1, 2025, for students not making a room selection.

If you do not plan to return to a Scholarship Hall, but would still like on campus housing, please adhere to the timeline provided above.

Returning Resident FAQs

Current residents in eligible apartment spaces may have the option to retain their current space as part of room selection. Each resident will be responsible for retaining their own space and roommate pull-ins will not be allowed during the retention period. To be eligible:

  • Apply and Contract by December 4, 2024, at 11:59 PM CST. 
  • December 5 at 10 AM CST: Room retention selections begin.
  • December 6 at 2 PM CST: Room retention selections end.

Housing & Residence Life has designated bed spaces for upper-class, returning students that differs from first year, freshman spaces to optimize availability with building capacities. 

During room selection, returning residents will be able to pull in roommates who currently live on campus, as space allows. To pull in a roommate: 

  • All roommates must have a complete housing contract for the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Residents will be assigned a six-digit roommate PIN number after contract completion. PIN numbers will be available on the checklist in your housing portal.
    • Each roommate will need to provide their preferred name, choice of bed space, PIN number and dining plan (optional for Apartment Living residents) while making a room selection. 

Students on the Standby list cannot be pulled in as a roommate. 

Housing & Residence Life has designated bed spaces for upper-class, returning students that differs from freshman spaces. If you feel that your circumstance warrants an exception, please call or email the housing office: 785-864-4560, housing@ku.edu.

Exceptions could limit your housing options and require administrative assignment. 

A gender inclusive assignment (GIA) is defined as a housing option in which two or more students share a multiple-occupancy space, in mutual agreement, regardless of the students’ sex, gender identity, and/or gender expression. Rates for GIA space are the same as other student rates.

The University of Kansas has partnered with College Pads to provide an Off-Campus Marketplace for KU students to explore housing options in the Lawrence community. Additionally, there is an Off-Campus Housing Fair on November 20, 2024, at the Kansas Memorial Union where students can meet with staff from various off-campus properties and learn more about options available for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Listings in the Off-Campus Marketplace and options at the Off-Campus Housing Fair are NOT covered in the Housing & Residence Life contract.
