If you're transferring to KU and plan to live on campus during the 2027-2028 academic year, use this page to find the key steps, deadlines, and room selection dates.
There is a $50 non-refundable application fee for housing. Transfer students are not required to pay an enrollment deposit.
New Room Selection Lottery Process
Room selection groups will be determined by monthly lotteries. Students must complete their housing application and contract and pay the $50 application fee (or receive an approved fee waiver) to qualify for that month’s lottery. The room selection times for each month's lottery are randomly assigned. Completing your housing contract and paying or deferring the Enrollment Deposit by May 1, 2027, ensures that you will receive a group number on May 6, 2027.
Example: If you apply in November and pay the $50 non-refundable application fee in November, you will be in the November lottery. However, if you apply in November but don't pay your application fee until January, you will be included in the January lottery. As long as the Enrollment Deposit is paid or deferred by May 1, 2027, the date paid does not affect the lottery group that you will be assigned to
Standby List
Students interested in living on campus or who missed the contracting deadline can join the standby list. Placement on the standby list does not guarantee housing.
Key Dates and Deadlines
Important dates and deadlines for transfer and graduate students living on campus.
| November 5th 2026 | Housing Application Opens. The 2027–2028 housing application and contract will open November 5, 2026, in the afternoon. Students will be assigned to monthly room selection lottery groups based on the month they complete their application, contract, and application fee payment (or receive an approved fee waiver). Admitted students can access the Housing Portal to complete their housing application and contract. Applicable fees and waiver information will be provided during the application process. |
| December 1 - May 1 | Students admitted after December 1 may still complete a housing application and contract. Housing is guaranteed if contracting is completed by May 1 at 11:59 p.m. CST. |
| March 1 | Scholarship Hall Priority Sign-Up (Optional). Students interested in scholarship hall living can submit a Scholarship Hall Application on the Housing Portal during the application process or return to complete after the contract has been submitted. Applying by the priority date may improve consideration for available spaces. |
| May 3 | The standby list opens for students who did not complete a contract by May 1. Placement from the list depends on space availability |
| May 6 | Room selection lottery group numbers announced. |
| Mid-May 2027 | Room selection for transfer and graduate students begins. Specific room selection dates and times are assigned based on your lottery group number. |

| Optional Items | Sign Up for a Special Community If you wish to live in a Special Community, submit your Special Community Preference Application by May 1. Roommate Pull-In You may pull in one roommate. To pull in a roommate or create a Roommate Pair, both of you must have paid the housing application fee and either paid or deferred the enrollment deposit. The student with the lower group number should complete room selection and use the Roommate PIN to pull in the other student. The Roommate PIN is available in your Housing Portal under Room Selection Checklist. Submit Medical Accommodations Request If you need medical accommodations, submit your request to the Student Access Center. Submitting your request early maximizes the likelihood that we can meet your needs. Requests received after the deadline will still be considered; however, accommodations will be provided based on available space. |
