Benefits of the Role

• Furnished single bedroom apartment living

• Food allowance stipend

• Biweekly pay for 22 weeks. Salary is minimally $18,813 for the term of appointment, which equates to a $14.78/hour for a .75 appointment (30 hours/week).

• 3 credit hours of tuition if eligible

• Can I have a pet as a graduate assistant?

Emotional Support Animals & Service Animals are allowed with proper paperwork and process through the HR department. however, Currently, we do not have a pet policy for our graduate staff positions.    

• What furniture is provided in a furnished apartment?

All graduate staff apartments provided by KU Student Housing come fully furnished including in-unit kitchens in most buildings. We also supply a bed frame, mattress, side table, dresser, coffee table, couch, and chair in the unit and access to free-to-use washers and dryers in the community. Our Graduate Assistants who work with the scholarship halls have access to an industrial community kitchen in close proximity to the apartment.   

• Do I have to purchase a parking permit?

While we recommend having a vehicle on campus in order to travel around the campus, it is not a requirement. To have a vehicle on campus, you will be required to purchase a parking permit. As a graduate staff member with KU Student Housing, you will have access to purchase a Housing Red permit. This means you will have full access to park in any housing green lots or red parking spaces within green lots. The University of Kansas does offer free buses on campus and throughout the Lawrence community. These bus routes can be found here

• Are there opportunities to get involved on campus outside of my assistanceship?

Yes, absolutely! The University of Kansas offers over 100 graduate-focused clubs and organizations. Ranging from interests and hobbies to academics and advocacy, student organizations give Jayhawks a platform to raise their voices and share their enthusiasm with a like-minded community of graduate students.
