Instructions for All Halls
Overview
Look for your hall to find move-in information specific to you. Instructions are divided by community: residence halls, scholarship halls, and apartments.
Information for All Residents
Update your Housing registration information in your myKU portal prior to your arrival time.
Review the move-in checklist, also inside your myKU portal, to see your assignment, roommate information, your confirmed arrival time, mailing address, and mailbox code.
Prior to move-in day, make sure you have your KU ID card. Not having your KUID will significantly impact your move in day. Submit your information to the KU Card Center, and make plans to pick it up before arrival.
Residents are limited to two vehicles in the unloading zone during their specific move-in time. (HERE residents may only bring one vehicle.)
Arrival Schedules
Student Housing announces arrival times for residents in most communities to help control numbers of people who need to use elevators and stairs. Find your arrival time window on your hall's move-in page below.
Please help by observing the correct schedule. Arrival times are the window of time you need to be at the "start" position on your map, not at the door of your building. Student Housing employees will be staffing the elevators to ensure that they go to the proper floor that corresponds to the arrival times below.
Students who cannot make their arrival window will need to sign up for an alternative time through their myKU portal. If you arrive outside your arrival time, you may be delayed.
Approved Early Arrivals
Early move-in is available for approved groups such as Panhellenic recruitment, band, Jayhawk JumpStart, or ROTC. Students can submit an early arrival request through their myKU portal.
Students approved for early arrival will receive information from their program. You must be on the group’s roster to be permitted early move-in. Early arrival fees may be charged by either Student Housing or your sponsoring group.
In extenuating circumstances, students may request an early move-in through their myKU portal, subject to approval. If approved a nightly fee will be charged to the student.
There are no restrictions on the number of guests a resident may invite to assist them with move in. However, all guests should be able to walk long distances in August heat and climb stairs.
Persons with limited mobility should stay at the hall with the student and should not travel to long-term parking locations away from the halls. If concerns about mobility issues arise while in the hall, please contact a staff member. Professional staff members will be wearing a blue KU Student Housing polo shirt and name badge.
- Housing has an extremely limited number of carts available. Bring your own cart or collapsible wagon for your convenience.
- Review what to bring for packing lists, prohibited items, and move-in tips.
- For information about bed height adjustments, visit the furniture page.
- KU is a Tobacco Free campus and smoking is prohibited, including e-cigs and vaporizers.
- Pets and alcohol are prohibited in the halls, even on move-in day.
- Be prepared to walk distances and climb stairs in typical Kansas summer heat.
